The Design Story
Niels Diffrient designed the Liberty chair based on his idea for a fully functional, yet minimal, mesh task chair. The Liberty has curved lines and a contemporary look and feel. The features of the Liberty chair include an innovative tri-panel non-stretch mesh backrest, which he based on the concept of a tailored men’s shirt. Working closely with textile designer Elizabeth Whelan, the end result is a mesh that is a flexible, as well as strong and supportive.

Arms
The Liberty arms are very unique. Aside from several different armpads to choose from, fixed or adjustable arms are available as well. The height adjustable arms lower down to the seat cushion and out of the way while working at a desk or on a keyboard tray.

- Duron arms match either your frame color or shell color when ordered with a polished aluminum frame
- Technogel arm pads come standard with a black Xanium synthetic leather cover

Frame Color
The frame of the Humanscale Liberty Chair is available in black, silver, or polished aluminum. Choose between black or silver trim on the silver or polished aluminum frames.
Back Mesh

Dash
Dash is one of the newest meshes available in the Humanscale line. It is characterized by its strength and durability.
Monofilament Stripe
The luminous quality of each individual monofilament strand creates a translucent effect, while also providing strength and durability.
Silver Check
This brilliant weave of monofilament strands and silver-coated yarns offers resiliency combined with a low abrasion factor.
Pinstripe
Pinstripe offers a simple stripe pattern in a variety of enlivening colors.
Catena
Catena offers a unique pattern in a variety of modern colors.
Seat Fabric
Fourtis - Grade 1
Inspired by the Latin word fortis, meaning strong, this fabric is the ultimate ratio of durability and flexibility thanks to a unique weave of two-blended colors, and offering a four-way stretch.
Corde 4 - Grade 1
Constructed from cotton, Corde 4 includes a four-way stretch and a small, modular weave. The result is a dimensionally ribbed surface on the face of the fabric that remains soft to the touch.
Lotus - Grade 1
This four-way stretch textile is water repellant and easy to clean, making it an ideal textile for healthcare and hospitality environments. Its polyurethane finish with nylon backing boasts a soft texture while offering exceptional durability. It exceeds all standards for contract upholstery and healthcare tests.
Sensuede - Grade 3
Sensuede was developed to be the best and most luxurious engineered suede available. The faux suede's soft touch comes from the use of breathable and wrinkle resistant recycled microfibers that are finer than a human hair but are extra-strong, resulting in a very resilient fabric. This material also was selected because of its environmentally sensitive content and manufacturing process.
Ticino Leather - Grade 1
Ticino is a semi-aniline dyed leather available in a variety of rich colors inspired by nature. It is a top, corrected grain leather to create a more natural aesthetic and ensure the leather remains as unique as the hide itself.
Corvara Leather - Grade 3
Corvara is a semi-aniline dyed leather that offers a smooth, silky feel and ultimate durability. It is a top, full grain leather that is embossed lightly for a consistent, uniform grain structure.
Box Stitching Color
Choose from a variety of different color box stitchings for your chair. This option is only available for leather upholstery.
Seat Cushion
The Liberty's thin seat cushion is designed specifically for long-term sitting comfort, whether with the double foam seat or the optional Technogel cushion that maximizes weight distribution and comfort. Both seats are very comfortable, but the gel seat upgrade offers better long-term support and relief of pressure points for users that sit in their chair 8 to 10 hours a day.
- Standard foam seat is contoured to fit your body and reduce pressure points, and is both comfortable and supportive
- Technogel seat cushion is a non-degradable, non-compressible Technogel layer on top of a foam core that provides maximum pressure distribution and offers unmatched, long-term comfort
- Technogel seat is available only with the Lotus and Vellum fabrics and is not available with leather or Sensuede
Please Note: Technogel has a firmer "sit" than the standard foam that softens up somewhat after a few minutes and will offer better back support if you are seated for long periods of time. Users who are up and down more may prefer the foam.

The Humanscale Liberty Chair is available in your choice of four cylinder heights. Seat heights are measured from the floor to the compressed front center of the seat cushion:

Poor back support for 295lb user
Everything is great about this chair EXCEPT The recline tension. I lean back and I feel like I'm going to fall over. I want a manual hard setting to give my back support. The so called sophisticated mechanism that automatically adjusts recline tension does not work. I am 295 lbs this might work for someone that only weighs what 105 lbs in that when they lean back it will support them. When I lean back I go all the way back. The design is not well thought through. But like I said everything else is great.

Good Chair
The Liberty chair fits me really well, I like the mesh back, the armrests are easy to use and adjust and the gel seat works well for me because I sit for so long- I am glad I opted for it. My only complaint is not being able to adjust the tension when I lean back. The level of tension is good, but I like to change that sometimes depending on what I'm doing. Other than that, I am really happy with my purchase.

So nice!
I can't believe how much I love this chair. I ordered one to try out in my office after I saw it at DWR with a leather seat and armrests. After a few days of long-term use, I realized it feels as great as it looks. ~Highly recommend it~
