    A basic necessity

Posted by Francoise Chapman on Oct 21st 2009

My son and I have a collection of over 20 'normal' 'and so-called ergonomic mice, all in perfect working order, all permanently banished from the desktop. At work my son uses a lot of mouse-based archaeological and architectural programmes and his wrist was really hurting. In Spain it seems that no one has heard of vertical mice and the tendency is for even smaller and flatter mice which will undoubtably lead to more carpal tunnel problems and operations, an unnecessary expense for the Social Security system. All this could be avoided if every office computer were equipped with a vertical mouse. In the home the same is true, especially as so many people spend their spare time on point-and-click computer games. Your mouse is expensive compared to the 'normal' ones and I think that prices could be brought down by increasing sales worldwide. Here in Spain I could only find one importer who charges 126 euros plus VAT plus shipping for the evoluent vertical mouse 3, which is why I ordered 2 directly from the States and will be ordering another one as soon as I can afford it. I am a highly satisfied customer.

Helps a lot, would appreciate interchangeable parts

Posted by Peter on Oct 17th 2009

This mouse has alleviated much of my hand pain. In addition to the shape, the additional buttons allowed me to replace much of my click-wheel and dragging with page-up and page-down functions. My one complaint is that my hands are rather large and i have some moderate discomfort in my thumb because the mouse doesn't fill up my whole hand. The OrthoMouse has interchangeable parts, and while that mouse did not help my hand pain at all and in some ways made it worse, I would love it if this mouse had similar parts so that it might better accommodate a range of hand sizes.

Great design -- make the switch

I was suffering from severe debilitating tendinitis pain and could not use a standard mouse for more than 2 days when someone told me about the vertical mouse. It took a couple of days to get used to the clicking -- normal, and now i feel like I have the same agility with the mouse function.
Even though my tendinitis is still flaring up some by the end of the week, I'm not debilitated and unable to work at all.

Good product - give it time

Posted by Gur Dotan on Sep 23rd 2009

I'm quite satisfied with the mouse. I have had it for about a week and it really relieves the pain in your wrists. However give it some time, the adjustments are not immediate, and I still feel sometimes a bit of strain in my shoulder instead of my wrist.

    Caution

Posted by Tim on Aug 7th 2009

After years of using regular mice I found it difficult to adjust to this mouse. I never got the hang of whether it was easier to slide my hand or move my entire shoulder. The position of your hand is more comfortable but it can be difficult to move the mouse quickly where you want it.

From my personal experience be aware that hand and wrist pain can have many causes. For me it comes from bulging discs and arthritis in my neck (NOT carpal tunnel). Ergonomic devices are important but not everything.

    evoluent vertical mouse 3

Posted by Felicia on Jul 12th 2009

Purchased the right and left hand mouse, to reduce stress on both hands. Discomfort has decreased markedly. I have been typing for several year, more than the average person and I have had carpal tunnel surgery on one hand. Now I face ulnar nerve issues. But the evoluent mice have made the wrist and arm/elbow pain much more tolerable. Once you use the evoluent mouse, you cannot go back to a standard mouse - the standard mouse feels awful!

    Not quite right

Posted by Dave on Jun 19th 2009

The verticality of the mouse is good, but unfortunately it has some ergonomic issues. The main problem for me was the shape of the mouse. Instead of allowing the ring and pinky fingers to curl inwards naturally, they're forced to stretch out straight. Because the buttons are on the side, you can't push the buttons without bracing the mouse with your thumb. Otherwise the mouse just slides over (unlike a regular mouse where you push down against the table). These two issues caused me to have to hold the mouse in a "lobster claw" type of grip, which was unnatural and quickly led to discomfort. I would suggest they revise the shape of this mouse to allow the ring and pinky fingers to curl inwards, and also perhaps move the main mouse button to the top of the mouse and allow the thumb to click it.

    Great product

Posted by Melissa on Jun 16th 2009

I ran into repetitive strain injury symptoms a few years ago due to heavy mousing at an unnatural angle. I got rid of my numerical keyboard to angle my arm back in, and started using this mouse. It doesn't take that long to get used to and it made a difference almost immediately. I have an older version and it does feel a bit "cheap" but it's held up for about four years and I don't think I'll ever go back to a standard mouse again.

This product comes standard with a 2-year warranty.
