Top 5 Reasons To Use An Ergonomic Chair
Posted by Human Solution on Jan 29th 2013
We've written in the past about what makes a chair ergonomic, but you may still be wondering why you should use an ergonomic chair.
Before I started working at Human Solution, I thought that my office chair was about as comfortable as you could get. Then I started working here and realized that my old chair's only redeeming feature was height adjustment, which is a pretty standard feature on all office chairs now anyway. As soon as I got to start trying out chairs from our website, I realized how much more comfortable I could be, which brings me to my first reason you should use an ergonomic office chair:
1: Comfort - Many people spend hours each day in their office chairs. That chair that felt comfortable during a two minute "test drive" at the store can start feeling a lot different when you're sitting there for two hours. Here in our office, we combat sitting fatigue not only with adjustable height desks, but also with great ergonomic office chairs. With the wide variety of chairs that we have available in our Austin, Texas showroom, it's a pretty safe bet that someone here is sitting in or has sat in the chair that you're thinking about purchasing, which means that we'll be able to give you our first-hand review of it. Whether you go with a sleek gel seat on your Humanscale Freedom chair, or prefer the plush memory foam seat of the Nightingale CXO 6200, you know that you'll be sitting in comfort.
2. Custom Fit - After moving from a standard office chair that's only height-adjustable, you may feel spoiled at first by all of the ways that you can adjust your new ergonomic chair. Take the Steelcase Amia Chair for example. This chair allows you to adjust the seat depth to the perfect fit, while the highly adjustable arms will not only raise to allow you to sit with your elbows at a 90 degree angle, but will also let you pull the armrests in closer to your body, or push them out if you need more space. The adjustable lumbar support allows you to apply support to the perfect spot on your back and the back tilts to keep you comfortable whether you are sitting up working, or leaning back on a phone call.
3. Health Benefits - The custom fit features on these chairs aren't just for comfort, though. With this comfort also comes health benefits. Letting your arms rest at a 90 degree angle reduces shoulder strain and the resulting neck pain that so many office workers are used to. An adjustable seat pan allows you to leave space between the front of the seat and the back of your knees, helping with circulation. We have chairs that will alleviate a wide variety of back and neck problems through proper lumbar support and shoulder positioning.
4. Quality - Over the years, I've owned quite a few $100 office chairs. Over time, the arms break, or the height adjustment stops working, or the back won't stay in place, and off I go to buy another $100 chair since they never seem to have a decent warranty and I never opt to pay the extra charge for the store warranty. At this point, I've probably spent at least as much as I'd have spent on an Ergohuman, Humanscale, or Steelcase chair, but without any of the comfort or ergonomic benefits of these chairs. These companies have been around for years and they back their chairs up with great warranties. Ergohuman and Steelcase chairs come with a lifetime warranty and Humanscale chairs come with a 15 year warranty. If anything breaks, all you have to do is call us and we will take care of all of the details for you.
5. Style - Who says that a well-built, comfortable chair can't also be stylish? Knoll and Humanscale both offer chairs by some of the most well-known designers. (Some Knoll designs that we carry can also be found in the Museum of Modern Art!) Whether you're going for a clean, modern look for your office, or you want a more classically styled executive chair, we can help you find the perfect chair to meet both your ergonomic and aesthetic needs. Give us a call at 1-800-531-3746 if you have questions about any of the chairs on our site, or stop by our showroom at 2139 West Anderson Lane in Austin, Texas to try some of them out for yourself!
